DROP OFF & PICK UPPlease use Hearst Ave traveling east to drop off and pick up your student at the Hearst gates. Scenic Ave traffic travels west during drop off and pick up. As of 3/23/24 the Scenic Gate will be closed.

Remember to model school values and be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, HONEST, and COMPASSIONATE to create a safe and healthy school experience for all during these stressful times.

Sequoia Safe Routes to School

To reduce traffic in our dense residential neighborhood, we ask that you park and walk to the school. Below is a map of nearby safe areas to park and walk students to school in less than 5 minutes with other fellow squirrels. Arranging walking buses from these points with small friend groups are also highly encouraged.

Safe Routes to School Park and Walk Map

Below is a color-coded map of the drop off zones.

Sequoia Loading Zone map 23-24
  • The red area indicates no stopping on Lincoln Avenue. Either safely park in the neighborhood and walk with your child OR keep driving and find a safe side street (not Hearst or Scenic) to turn around and rejoin the line on Lincoln Ave.
  • The blue area is a car queue waiting to pull forward (there is also a disabled parking space in this area). You should not drop off or pick up in this zone.
  • The green area on the below map is the drop off/pick up zone

Please do not stop in the street to have your child get in or out of the car.

Please do not double park, block the street or block neighbors' access to their driveways.

AFTERCARESequoia Elementary has an on-site aftercare program called Healthy Start that is run by East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC). Healthy Start serves over 200 Sequoia students at an adult to kid ratio of 1:10 for TK and Kindergarten and 1:20 for 1st through 5th graders. The program has been run for many years by Sequoia parent Deanna Grant (, and you can reach out to her with questions or contact the program director Reka Lal ( Enrollment is offered to continuing students and their siblings in the late spring, and open enrollment applications are released in the early summer (May/June).

We have compiled an Aftercare and Summer Camp Directory (embedded below so that you can quickly scroll through). Please feel free to add information to this sheet that can help other squirrel families.
