Current Volunteer Needs
Volunteer Opportunities:
Sequoia volunteers offer integral support every week inside classrooms, across enrichment programs at school (like garden, library, and art) and during community events put on at school and in the community. Volunteering is a FUN and meaningful way to support not only your student but all Sequoia students and our fantastic teachers and staff. Volunteering is a way to make friends and lifelong memories as part of this special community.
Getting Started as a Volunteer:
Thank you for volunteering at Sequoia! Your time and energy makes a lasting impact on students, staff, and the community at large. Before volunteering, you’ll need to complete a one-time registration process with Oakland Ed Fund. This ensures a safe and welcoming school environment for all.
Oakland Ed Fund provides this chart showing the different levels of clearance needed for different activities. It is helpful to have as many caregivers as possible registered and cleared as "unsupervised parent/guardian volunteers." At this level, volunteers can chaperone field trips, greatly enriching the classroom experience. The only additional step is to get fingerprinted via Livescan. Your Livescan clearance never expires, meaning you can make a difference as a volunteer for years to come!
1. REQUIRED BEFORE ANY OTHER STEP: Submit your volunteer registration with Oakland Ed Fund:
2. Submit TB Clearance (can be done before or after steps 3 & 4)
Fill out the TB Risk Assessment form at the link below and do not sign. Review the form to determine if you are low risk. If you have a risk factor, you may need to take a TB test. If you pass the risk assessment, the physician will sign the “Certificate of Completion.” Some physicians do not require you to even schedule a visit and can do this process completely online, if your risk is low. Send your completed certificate to osv@oaklandedfund.org.
KAISER MEMBERS: Request your form here
3. Complete your Livescan Fingerprinting
Fill out and print the form using the button below. Pro tip - Oakland Libraries offer free printing! Bring to any LiveScan location (Copy USA on Fruitvale Ave near MacArthur is the closest location to Sequoia). Pay the cashier (often credit card only.) If you need financial assistance, SPTO can help. Please contact sequoiavolunteers@gmail.com.
4. Take the Mandated Reporter Training or request an exemption

The 1-2 hour mandated reporter training is not required if you volunteer fewer than 32 hours per school year. If you plan to volunteer fewer than 32 hours in a school year, you can request an exemption from this step of the process by emailing osv@oaklandedfund.org and saying you are an occasional volunteer at Sequoia Elementary School who is Ed Fund cleared and would like to request an exemption from the mandatory reporter training.
Or take mandatory reporter training and email certificate of completion to osv@oaklandedfund.org.
5. Complete any follow up tasks emailed to you from Ed Fund (osv@oaklandedfund.org)
Email a color photo of your beautiful self to osv@oaklandedfund.org.
Complete tasks in all follow-up emails from Ed Fund (osv@oaklandedfund.org).

Driving on a Field Trip?
Every year, field trip drivers need to submit a Declaration of Driver form (and copies of supporting documents listed on the form) to the main office. You can bring your printed documents to the front office or you can email a copy of the form and documents to tracey.kelp@ousd.org and mayra.beltranliborio@ousd.org.
For volunteers with expired clearance:
After four years, Oakland Ed Fund requires volunteers retake the TB Risk Assessment. You will receive an email alerting you that your clearance is expiring and reminding you to re-submit an updated TB Risk Assessment.
Volunteer Tips:
- Volunteers must sign in at the front office before heading to their volunteer location. Pick up your volunteer badge or bring your lanyard from home!
- To access the front office from the main entrance on Lincoln Ave, press the speaker button and the front door will be unlocked so you can enter.
- Remember to follow all posted parking signs when parking in the neighborhood around the school.
