International Walk and Roll to School Day
What to expect:
Every October, schools across the county—and the world—celebrate International Walk and Roll to School Day. The event encourages students, families, and school communities to walk, roll, bike, take transit, or use other non-motorized ways to get to school.
Who is this for:
All students and their caregivers who take them to school
When:
Wednesday, October 8 on your morning commute
2025 Event details:
Walk, roll, bike, carpool or take transit to school on Wednesday, October 8. Wear your Sequoia gear to show school spirit! When you enter the school through the Green or Blue gates on Hearst Ave, use a sticker to track how you traveled to school and look for fun prizes when you do!
Sign up to volunteer at the Hearst Ave gates or host a walking "school bus" party.
Pro Tip: If you live farther away, park along a walking "school bus" route and join the party!
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
What to expect:
Students in South San Francisco founded Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, with the vision of building a nationwide movement and starting a day of dialogue to make a difference. This movement now happens nationwide. Wear purple in honor of Ruby Bridges! More info coming soon.

Wednesday, November 14 on your commute
Golden Sneaker Contest
What to expect:
The Golden Sneaker Contest is an opportunity for our students to be active, build camaraderie, and reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Teachers will track daily activity and the class with the highest percentage of participation wins golden shoelaces! Sponsored by the Alameda County Transportation Commission.
