Sequoia's Squirrel Fund
Every child deserves a vibrant, enriching educational experience. At Sequoia Elementary School, the entire community comes together to raise funds to continue programs we feel are critical to all students’ experience but not funded by the district or state.
To raise 90% of the funds needed each year, the Sequoia Parent Teacher Organization (SPTO) mobilizes the community twice per year:
- The Squirrel Fund: Our largest fundraiser of the school year happens each fall and is largely targeted to our caregiver community.
- A March FUNdraiser: Each spring we have a smaller event (in terms of funds raised but not small in joy spread amongst our Squirrels) where students solicit donations from friends, family and community to support the school through a read-a-thon or move-a-thon/walk-a-thon type event.
That’s it! We try to make all other events community focused and not fundraisers.

How much do we need to raise?
We spend approximately $600 per student or $280,000 a year on a wide range of programs that benefit our Squirrels.
We know that not everyone can make a donation at that level but your contribution, no matter the size, has a profound impact on our school community. All members of our community can make a difference, and everyone is encouraged to participate.
What does my donation fund?
Each year, the SPTO, Principal and our community determine the budget and vote on how funding is used (come to an SPTO community meeting and cast a vote!). The examples listed below are just some of the programs and staff that would not exist at Sequoia without your generous contributions.
- Physical Education (partial subsidy)
- Garden Enrichment Program
- Noon Supervisor
- Culture Keeper
- Social-emotional learning coordinator
- Mental Health Counselor
- Field Trip Subsidy
- Teacher and Staff Supply Reimbursement Fund
Double your impact
Did you know you can double your donation to the Squirrel Fund through a Corporate Matching Gift? Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations, like Sequoia Elementary. Contact your company’s HR department to find out if they offer matching donations and the process to request a match.
